Since 1760

Our Story

A proud, family-run business at the heart of Maghera, led by the Bradley family.

A Milestone Year

25 Years of Walsh’s

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Walsh’s. For more than 25 years the Bradley family has kept the doors of this Maghera landmark open to locals and travellers alike, building a place for celebrations, friendships and the big moments of community life.

From a family home for visitors to a hotel, apartments, lodges and coastal cottages, it has grown a little at a time, always with the same warm welcome. Press play to see the journey so far.

How it all began

The story goes that in 1760 a young farm hand named Jack O’Neill was herding sheep on a hill in County Tyrone when he found a crock of silver. It let him open the first hostelry in Maghera, which he called The Inn of Maghera. The inn passed down through generations until the 1990s, when it was bought by the Bradley family, who still run it today.

The cornerstone of the community

Walsh’s is where local people find love and friendship, celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and births, and find comfort in difficult times. It is the cornerstone of the community, much like the ancient stone that has stood outside the hotel since it opened, also known as the cornerstone.

Travellers from near and far find a warm welcome here, with a certain sense of occasion, like visiting your favourite auntie who lets you have a wee sip of brandy.

Growing with the family

Our story began with the hotel, then grew to include our apartments, the Mill Lodges in Culnady, the restored Linen House in Upperlands and Coastal View Buncrana on Donegal’s Wild Atlantic Way. Each stay has its own character, with the same dedication to comfort and a memorable welcome. From Maghera, Derry, the Causeway Coast and Belfast are all within a 30 to 50 minute drive.
